My 5 Favorite Social Media Apps
As photographers we are on social media ALL OF THE TIME! So here are five apps that are going to grow your follower base, help you create the most stunning stories, and make you a social media expert. Because let's be real friends, we're all content creators whether we like calling ourselves that or not. If you are a photographer then you are creating content for others to consume. So we might as well be good at it right?
One: Later
Later is a social media scheduling app. Within Later you can save a library of thousands of images, click on one image to create a post, and save all of your hashtags. The hashtag feature is probably my favorite because if you are posting about different topics and need different lists of hashtags you can save each individual list. Then when posting all you have to do is select the appropriate list and you will never have to write out all those hashtags again! On the first Monday of each month I like to sit down and schedule out thirty posts for the month. All I have to do is select a photo, drag it to the date and time I want to have it go live, write out my caption, add any tags or locations, apply my hashtags, and hit schedule. Then I don’t have to worry about posting on Instagram for an entire month! How nice does that sound?!?
Two: Canva
I talk about Canva literally all the time, incase you haven’t noticed. But I talk about it so much because I use it that much. Canva is where I create all of my cute Instagram stories, promotional content, and tips of the day for the LMP Collective. With Canva you can create story templates, cute advertising posts, flyers, and ebooks. I have created all of my ebooks in Canva with the aid of their readymade templates. Canva is so versatile that I end up using it everyday regardless of what I’m working on. There is both a free and a paid version so regardless of your budget you can use it!
Three: SCRL
Ever wondered how photographers get that super cool scrolling effect with their images? SCRL is how! Level up your content by using SCRL.
Have you ever seen those images on Instagram where half of the image is in the first part of the post and then as you swipe it includes the rest of the image seamlessly? Every time I post one of these people will DM me and ask how I did it. I create these images using SCRL. It's an app you can put on your phone and within the app you can create the continuous carousel from your image and then you can save it to your camera roll in the order that you’ll want to post it in. So SCRL makes life very easy and it’s a great way to grab people’s attention!
Four: Cut Story
Cut story is a video editing app that will cut your longer videos into 15 second increments to post on social media!
Cut Story is a great video recording app that aligns with the fifteen second requirement for Instagram stories. So say I have a video I want to use on Instagram but its to long… I can put it into Cut Story and click on the Instagram option and then it will cut it into fifteen second increments and save those videos to my camera roll in the correct order. Then I can post them on Instagram in those fifteen second increments without anything getting cut off or distorted. Cut Story really makes things easy and if you are doing a lot of video this maybe the way to go for you.
Five: Unfold
Unfold is another way to create gorgeous story templates. This app has both a free and paid version so there are limitations on the free version but it is gorgeous storytelling app so it’s worth checking out.
I hope you enjoyed this read. If you would like more daily photographer education be sure to check out the LMP Collective Facebook page. Also remember that these blog posts go hand in had with The LMP Podcast so if you would rather listen you can find the podcast on Apple Podcasts. Until next week!
